Let’s talk about mental health

Human beings are unique creatures who need to be socially connected to nurture their relationships with their near and dear ones. A social brain will frequently crave for companionship even if one is shy, distracted or an introvert. Mental health is a growing subject that is raised in several debates and discussions, be it in personal relationships or in the corporate culture. Mental health is a state of one’s psychological well-being. It is the way one feels about themselves, their relationship with others and their surroundings. It is also the ability to manage oneself during a difficult situation or a stressful state of mind.

Sometimes, we might require professional help and guidance to take care of our mental health. It is in times like these, where we need to let go of the stereotype and stigma associated with mental well-being and embrace the ideology of brain training.  Making some important lifestyle and behavioral changes can have a huge positive impact on our mental health – including a new sense of resilience, an uplift in mood and an overall sense of joy, enjoyment and peace.

The subject of mental health has gained immense importance in the corporate world where research indicates that in any given year, one in every five employees suffer from minor to adverse mental health disorders such as anxiety, stress disorder and depression. In fact, depression affects more than 350 million people globally in which 40 million people fall in the age category of 18-22.

Hence, it is important that we speak up about these issues and discuss solutions and steps we can take to avoid long term harm. This blog will widely discuss a few ways on how you can improve your own mental well-being.

Tell yourself something positive

Research shows that the way one thinks of themselves has a powerful effect on their overall well-being. When one perceives themselves negatively, they will end up viewing everything from a biased and a negative point of view that may make them feel worthless and inferior.

Focus on ONE thing at a time

We often forget to be mindful of the present and rather deviate to the future. Living the moment allows one to let go of the negative or difficult emotions that puts them down. Start paying attention to physical sensations, smell, sound, and taste to help you focus better.

Open up to somebody close

Understanding whom to value, and trust and opening up to them will help one think more positively and will nurture their emotional well-being and trust. In this fast-paced world, people unconsciously carry a lot of baggage that requires to be shared and expressed.
